Times are changing. The legality of cannabis is being reconsidered as its holistic health uses are unveiling. Cannabis is no longer just a drug that gets you high. The medical aspects of the cannabis plant are being brought to light with the help of science. The cannabis plant has proven to have many health benefits beyond it’s psychoactive component THC. Science is also revealing that the psychoactive effects of Cannabis can be a significant part of someone’s health regime. There is still a great deal to be studied about the cannabis plant, but we know cannabis can be used specially for health and wellness. What isn’t appealing about growing your own medicine cabinet? 


1) Repairing senior’s brains.

Cannabis has been proven to slow down someone’s brain aging process, and a low dose of THC restored cognitive function in old mice, reversing the age-related decline in their cognitive performance, according to a published study by the journal, Nature Medicine. “There is substantial evidence suggesting that the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is part of the latter system because it modulated the physiological processes underlying aging,” Nature Medicine writes.  In elderly brains specifically, cannabis can have a significant impact.

2)  It has been proven to help with a number of life threatening ailments.


Medical marijuana has linked to improving the lives of people with severe illnesses, such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Arthritis, Glaucoma, AIDS/HIV, Crohn’s Disease, and even cancer. Medical marijuana has potential to improve the lives of people with serious illnesses. Cannabis has been reported to have positive effects on muscle spasms, tremors, bladder control, speech, and other symptoms of serious diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, or Multiple Sclerosis. Many of these diseases do not have a cure, and are affecting the lives of a notable majority of our population.

3) Cannabis can replace harmful and heavy anti-anxiety, antidepressant, and sedative medicines.


Science has shown that cannabis can be helpful in combatting depression, bipolar disorder, insomnia and anxiety driven ailments such as PTSD. CBD (Cannabidiol), a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the marijuana plant, could help extinction learning in humans, helping with learned fear responses causing anxiety disorders, according to a British psychopharmacology study.  Traditional, allopathic, anti-anxiety medicine, such as the Benzodiazepine, Xanax, has severe side effects. Considering it’s extremely addictive qualities, the number of ER visits because of Xanax abuse neared 125,000 people in 2010.  Certain studies have also suggested that cannabis helps with depression. Traditional, heavy anti-depressants have severe effects on people’s everyday lives , and cannabis gives the world a natural alternative. Cannabis also significantly helps with pain, replacing other extremely addictive pharmaceutical drugs, such as the narcotic Oxycontin, which acts as a major gate-way to Heroin drug addictions. While cannabis can replace many psychological pharmaceutical medicines, it can also replace over the counter medicine, such as Ibuprofen. Cannabis has proven to be an anti-inflammatory, having the capacity to replace the heart-heavy pain killers we’re used to.

While the answer to finding internal peace isn’t always resorting to an outside source, cannabis can be paired with healthy coping skills, such as meditation, yoga, or running, to better enhance the mental health benefits.

4) It makes physical activity better.


Cannabis is now being paired with fitness, yoga, music, and sexnto enhance a persons experience! Cannabis has proven to be a natural aphrodisiac , and can help those with Erectile Dysfunction and low sex drives. People are now even pairing cannabis with fitness , replacing the couch-potato stoner stereotype with a new kind of runners high! Cannabis basically makes everything better, even music, and everyone knows the therapeutic qualities behind making or listening to some tunes! Why not pair cannabis with some of your favorite daily activities to make the experience as grandiose as could be?


 


5) Cannabis helps you practice mindfulness, improving your mental clarity everyday and improving your spirituality.


Meditation is an important practice of letting go of the stressors and focusing on the present moment, and cannabis can help someone practice mindfulness, a mental state where acceptance and focused awareness on the present moment is achieved.  Being present means not thinking about your past or worrying about your future; your attention is fully immersed in your present situation or task. You are being mindful of where you are, your current situation, who you are with and where your thoughts need to be. We have an estimated 70,000 thoughts a day, according to a laboratory at the University of Southern California, and to simply silence your mind, reconnect with yourself and escape from your ego for 10 minutes a day could change anyone’s life who is willing to try. It’s scientifically proven that meditation works for your mental health. People have found that pairing meditation with the uplifting and relaxing mental effects of Cannabis can enhance the practice. Using Cannabis with a daily meditation routine to better silence your mind and focus on your breath has the potential for positive affects on your mental clarity, enhancing your overall well being!
