DIY Organic Soil


DIY Homemade Organic Soil and Compost Tea

Making your own organic soil is simple. In this first recipe, no added nutrients are necessary, as the components have everything your cannabis plant will need! This organic soil is nutrient-rich and better for human digestion.


What you will need to make organic soil from scratch:

  1. Biolive
  2. Alfalfa meal
  3. Oyster shell for calcium
  4. Blood meal & bone meal
  5. Humic acid
  6. Kelp meal
  7. Earthworm castings
  8. Trace minerals
  9. Langbeinite
  10. Guano
  11. Dolomite lime

To make your organic soil, you must:

  1. Get two clean containers to mix your ingredients in
  2. Add ingredients into one container according to manufacturer’s directions on each
  3. Mix well
  4. Separate approximately ¼ of mixture into your second container
  5. In your second container, add more bone meal, earthworm castings, langbeinite,and guano, adding about ¼ of the manufacturer’s recommendation this time Mix well
  6. In a separate container that you will be planting in, fill up a quarter of the way with the hot mix from the second container.
  7. Fill your planting container the rest of the way up with your mix from container one
  8. Plant
  9. Water

With Store Bought Soil

If you are going to make soil with store bought soil as a base, adding nutrients throughout the growing process, you will need:

  1. Bag of soil (not mulch) from store
  2. Biolive
  3. Alfalfa meal
  4. Earthworm castings

To make this type of soil, you must:

  1. Mix soil and additives in a clean container
  2. Put soil in your planting containers
  3. Water with filtered pH water
  4. After 2-3 weeks, start adding your nutrient of choice at about ¼ strength of manufacturer’s recommendation

When watering your plant, filtered pH water is fine, but a compost tea water mixture will help you gain superb results!

To make compost tea, you need to start with:

  1. Molasses
  2. Earthworm castings
  3. Organic Humisoil
  4. Alfalfa meal
  5. Humic acid
  6. Clean 5 gallon bucket with lid
  7. A mesh bag for steeping the ingredients
  8. Airstone
  9. Air pump

To begin making compost tea:

  1. In your bucket, add RO or good quality water 3-4 inches from the top of the bucket
  2. Add 2 TBSP of Molasses to water
  3. In your mesh bag, add 3 cups of Earthworm Castings, 1 cup of Organic Humisoil, ½ cup of Alfalfa Meal, and 1 TBSP liquid Humic Acid
  4. Put air stone in bucket and aerate for 24 hours.

Whether you are making your soil completely organically or using a soil base and adding your own nutrients, doing it yourself ensures that you know exactly what is in your soil, meaning you will know exactly what is going into your cannabis plants and into your body!
